In 2015 we were approached by artist Heather Hindle, who had a two-year waiting list of bereaved military families commissioning her to paint a portrait of their loved one. As a struggling artist she was finding it financially difficult to meet their demands. After recognising the impact of these paintings we agreed to fund the materials, framing and delivery costs, leaving the skilled artwork to Heather, whose resources now suffer no financial impact
British Soldier Memorial Paintings by Heather Hindle
I embarked on this project completely by accident. My father requested a portrait for his friend Sheenie Chant, Darren’s widow, as Darren was a friend of his. From this one portrait I received many requests from widows and mothers alike asking for one.
I am a full time professional portrait artist but I couldn’t charge for these pictures. It’s something I do because I can. The only struggle I had was paying for them to be made into prints and then posted out to the families.
Forces support solved that problem by sponsoring me, which now covers the costs of each portrait and prints up to £100 a month, which allows me to spend a week each month completing a portrait to then gift to the families of the fallen. Without the team at Forces Support I really couldn’t carry on sending these out.
I will be eternally grateful for their support.
